Alcatel-Lucent is an industry leader in many telecommunication fields including mobile telephony, fixed, IP and Optic based technology. They are a global leader and one of the largest suppliers of business telephone systems. Alcatel-Lucent owns Bell Labs, renewed for developing the newest technologies so they are also a leader in developing the next generation of telephone equipment technologies. With offices or distribution networks setup in over 100 countries, Alcatel-Lucent is able to provide communication solutions to global conglomerates or small start ups in less developed nations. While large, the Alcatel-Lucent structure is designed to be adaptable to an ever changing market for business telephone solutions and knows that to be successful; they must always be on the forefront of technology.

The goal of Alcatel-Lucent business telephone solutions is to make modernizing any business telephone system easier. This ability to stay current with technology keeps any business working at full capacity and makes internal and external communications easier and more effective. Furthermore, modernized telephone systems allow any company's employees the ability to better serve their client's needs whether they are in the office or half a world away.

Mitel is another class-leading and worldwide provider of communication technologies, including telecommunication and collaboration solutions. Mitel delivers solutions to companies large and small that are robust in nature and designed to be easily scalable. This simple approach creates a product that is infinitely flexible all while keeping costs down and resource usage low as well. With business phone systems that add features like collaboration ability to any phone, their product range is class leading. The Mitel approach to business phone systems is a scalable design that allows a company an affordable product up front that can be scaled to meet the needs of the business, regardless of how large it grows. Mitel products can be purchased in more than 90 countries and Mitel works with more than 1500 authorized resellers around the globe.

Both Mitel and Alcatel-Lucent focus on VOIP phone solutions for businesses. VOIP phone technology helps take advantage of the power of the internet to allow a business easily installed robust communication solutions that are cheaper up front and easier to maintain than traditional systems. On top of simple telephone access, many VOIP phones can handle video and conference call abilities as well making them a leap from any existing phone system. These systems are becoming the rule rather than the exception for business phones because they offer lower costs and more features than what could be had in the past. Best of all, these systems harness the power of the internet and associated technologies in a way that give small businesses all of the telecommunication advantages that used to be reserved for larger corporations.

Avaya has almost 3500 research and development team members and employs almost 20,000 people in total around the world. With 5100 patents to their credit, and another 10,000 innovations licensed to other companies, Avaya is an industry leader in telephone technology. They are especially known for their Unified Communications systems, Contact Centre technologies, Enterprise Messaging servers and Audio Conference technologies. They are also a world leader in maintenance services for corporate clients around the globe.

Prevention of Toll Fraud

Advice on Prevention of Toll-FraudThere has always been a global issue in relation to "Toll Fraud" and this become more apparent recently with the advances in sophisticated software technology used by the criminal networks.

It is important that you review your security arrangements on your telephony equipment to minimise the danger of exposure to such crimes. The criminals are usually based outside of the UK, which makes it extremely difficult0 for law enforcement agencies to prosecute successfully. This also means that the possibilities of a successful insurance claim related to these potential losses is almost impossible,so liability for fraudulent calls ultimately reside with you - the end user!

Universal have issued a guidance document which can be found by clicking on the document image on the right. We urge all of our customers to take the time to review these recommendations and to contact us if further information or assistance is needed.

London Science Museum bids farewell to the past

London Science MuseumGlenn Benson is Site Manager for the London Science Museum, at Blythe House and describes the situation at the museum and why changes had to be made to their telephony system.

"The building that we occupy dates back to the 1890's and used to be part of the Post Office Savings Bank. They employed thousands of people here at one time but moved out in 1977 when the site was leased out to Euston Films who made The Sweeney, Minder and the New Avengers TV programs. The Science Museum moved here in April 1984 and took over the then new, 'swanky' BT Monarch 120B PBX system which stayed in continual use until the summer of 2008.

It served us very well but in the last couple of years it increasingly became faulty. So few engineers were still around who understood the system and equally few spare parts were available that it was difficult to get repairs completed or services performed. (More...)
